films such as 'The Great Dicta and "Modem died yesterday at her home in south ern Switzerland A municipal employee in the village of Ronco said official records show the actress was born June 3 1905 making her 84 However reference books give her year of birth as 1911 or 1915 The employee Pia Della Mora said the exact cause of death was not known "but one could assume she died of old A member of her house hold said the actress had a brief illness Ms Goddard born Marion Levy in Whitestone NY began her career on stage in the New York show Her Hol lywood debut came with a small part in Girl in 1931 the first of 40 plus mo vies As a member of the Hal Roach Studio stock company she starred with Chaplin in two of his classics in 1936 and Great Dicta in 1940 Their marriage her second ended in 11th term in the House and pledged hard work and honesty Speaking by phone from his Statehouse office Healy said he favors new tax revenues but only after all the fat has been trimmed from the proposed fis cal 1991 budget With current budget deficit estimates at $23 billion for the next two years Healy said poli ticians who promise their con stituents should not be taken seriously No one in his district has an nounced the intention of enter ing either the primary or gener al election races only promises ever made in my 20 years in office are to work hard and to be hon he said about all you can do down Healy 44 of Burnt Hill Road was first elected to the House in 1970 taking over the seat from his father Winston also a Re publican who had held the seat since 1962 before deciding not to run again There was a large field of Republicans attempting to capture the primary in 1969 Winston urged his son who lacked experience in community involvement not to run But Healy whose district stretches some 70 miles from Colrain to Huntington cam paigned hard and edged out his challengers in the primary and general elections father hand pick Healy said was not a Kennedy transfer of Since then Healy has faced competition in about half his races the last serious attempt coming from Deerfield Demo crat Michael Ruggeri whom Healy defeated in 1984 continue to think public service is he said represent 40000 people They are the people I work for If Republicans Democrats or independents it make any difference to me When I come to Boston I call them as I see Healy has been an outspoken advocate of cutting unnecessary expenses from the budget in cluding the state House door keepers He admits some of his votes may not be popular and because he does not tow the party line he might not receive any committee chair appoint ments but Healy emphasized he delivers the needed funds to his 19 town district not a right wing head in the sand conservative type of he said mind spending money to solve prob lems But government should be Healy who sits on the Counties and the Natural Re sources and Agriculture com mittees said eliminating the budget deficit will be in the forefront of inquest began in Springfield District Court yesterday into the shooting death of a West Spring field teen ager last month Judge Irving Goldblatt is exam ining the events surrounding the death of Chad MacDonald 15 of 304 Hillcrest Ave West Spring field An inquest is a closed door proceeding before a District Court judge in which testimony and evi dence is presented regarding the circ*mstances of a death Once the proceeding is com pleted the judge makes a finding on whether the death may be the result of negligence or criminal acts If Goldblatt finds potential wrongdoing the case would be presented to a grand jury that would decide whether to issue criminal indictments The Hampden County District office declined com ment revealing only that Assis tant District Attorney Diane Dillon was handling the case West Springfield police had con ducted a lengthy investigation into the shooting but have refused to comment on their findings So far police have charged only one person in the March 10 shoot ing at the home A family friend of the MacDon alds identified as Joseph Siermienski 14 of 33 Lynne Drive West Springfield was arraigned March 12 in Springfield Juvenile Court on delinquency by reason of murder That case is pending According to police reports Siermienski and MacDonald were handling guns owned by MacDon ald's father when the 14 year old shot MacDonald in the face with a 9mm semiautomatic pistol The MacDonalds said their son stole the two guns from the fami ly gun collection because he had received repeated death threats from a 16 year old classmate Church offers to ticketing of cars by police offi cers during the past two weeks including the mass ticketing at Sacred Heart April 14 Many pa rishioners complained about the ticketing saying they had parked on the yearlong impasse in negotiations for a new contract Law students up for scholarship The Hampden County Bar Asso ciation is accepting applications for its annual scholarship awarded to a Hampden County resident who has been admitted to law school for the coming year The award will be made based on merit and need Applicants must have been county residents for at least five years This will mark the
