Troy Adam Stevens, 41, was found guilty by a jury of one count of distribution of child exploitation material, three counts of possession of child exploitation material and one count of indecent assault.

In sentencing in the Supreme Court in Burnie, Justice Tamara Jago said police executed a search warrant of Steven's residence in 2018.

At the time he was living with his wife and children.

Police took possession of two mobile phones in the initial search.

They then returned and found a third phone hidden in a man hole in the roof.

All three devices were sent for forensic examination and child exploitation material was found on them all.

"In total, you were in possession of 5083 images and/or videos which were child exploitation material," Justice Jago said.

While a proportion of the images and videos were categorised as category one, which is a milder level of child exploitation material and involves depictions of children in sexually suggestive poses or which are otherwise sexual in nature, there were other images which involved penetrative sexual activity between children, and children and adults.

"Additionally, there were also images involving sadism or bestial*ty and physical child abuse found."

The indecent assault was committed by Stevens between April, 2018 and April, 2020.

The victim was a young girl, the daughter of one of your friends.

"When she was aged between seven and eight years, you took her to the Romaine Park," Justice Jago said.

"Your two sons were also with you. The boys went to play but you made K stay in the car. You showed her a p*rnographic video on your mobile phone and then touched her."

You placed your hand onto her vagin*. You put your hand underneath her trousers but you did not go underneath her underwear. The incident was distressing for her. She ultimately disclosed it to her brother and then to her mother and reported the matter to police in May, 2021."

Justice Jago said Stevens had not demonstrated any remorse.

He has been remanded in custody since May 15.

"This is the first time you have experienced incarceration. It has been a difficult experience for you and you have already been the victim of assaults," Justice Jago said.

"I accept your hearing impairment makes you vulnerable in the prison environment."

Justice Jago placed Stevens' name on the sex offenders register and sentenced him to two years and six months in prison.

He will be eligible for parole when he has served half of that sentence.
