20 Fall 2021 Heritage Shrine Club Dennis Berry, P.P.H eritage Shrine Club has been busy this spring and summer. We kicked off the summer break with acookout at Noble Doug Cameron’s house, and a greattime was had by all who attended. The Heritage Mini-Trucks have been busy this year, after a workday to get the trucks ready after a year’slayoff. We have been participating in a number ofparades. We did the Colonial Beach River Fest Parade inJune; in July, we did the Elkton Field Day Parade; andthen the next week, we did the Bridgewater Fireman’sParade. In August, we traveled to Culpeper for theBrandy Station Fireman’s Parade, as we say, the“longest – shortest parade ever.” Over 130 paradeentries for a one-quarter mile parade, but we have funno matter how long the parade is. Noble Mike Riabouchinsky has gotten his golf cartready for the parades, and unfortunately, he has hadto tow a Mini-Truck in 3 of the parades. We don’t knowif he is the MVP for having his golf cart there to tow us,or is a bad luck charm, as we never seemed to breakdown before.

And listen, my car buds who are(finally) in June that they needed to practice driving so still stuck in those dark, smelly, damp trailers (there is thatthey could participate in parades, which I think is a great word again!) would really appreciate the opportunity toidea, since we cars like social distancing of at least 3 inches take you anywhere you would want to steer them! Until(obviously the CDC with its 6-foot standard doesn’t know you see me at a parade …. check your oil … put air in youranything about performance driving). So, in July, I got tires …. fill your tank …. but most of all …. put a smile on ato feel the hot asphalt beneath my wheels, the hot air child’s face! I am really looking forward to SASA … evenif we will be the last Shrine Center in the parade. Hopefullythere will be folks on the street to witness our slick moves! The guys told me they have been doing other thingsinstead of driving. I didn’t believe them until I was shownthe pictures. In May, the Mini Patrol Ladies and Nobleshelped get the Orange County Wine Festival restarted. They tell me they had a great time. In the picture, you cansee the Commander, Steve Chambers, with the Ladies. (Idon’t understand, is that working?) You know, the Ladiesare a lot better looking than the guys, so they are the oneswho ask for donations from the festival attendees (Photo2). This past weekend, the five Mini Patrolmen in thepicture, four of whom have wives in the LOS (Ladies of theOriental Shrine), helped the LOS at their Watermelon Tentduring the Watermelon Festival (Photo 1). Like everythingelse which is restarting after this past year, attendancewas down, which meant sales were down. But the goodnews is that it was not as hot as it has been in the past. Bythe way, did you know that if a Noble’s Lady is in the LOS,he is known as a “Trailer”? Can you believe that? I alwaysthought that trailers had wheels, were towed, and carriedthings. Oh well, there are a lot of things about humans Idon’t understand. Ok, now that I have that human stuff out of the way,we cars are really looking forward to a great Fall andChristmas parade season!
