Cals Model United Nations is a two-day conference that annually takes place at Cals College, Nieuwegein, The Netherlands.

The last teneditions of Cals Model United Nations were a great success.This year will be our tenth edition of CalsMUN. This means that we have ouranniversary! Of course we will do something special because of that.

Now, with a fresh new OC staff that has been formed, we are planning on organising a fun and educative Model United Nations once again: Cals Model United Nations, thetenthedition.

A Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation of the United Nations, in which students learn about the prominent global issues and how the United Nations deal with them.

Participants, who are referred to as delegates, represent a country or a Non-Profit-Organization (NGO), such as Greenpeace, and debate resolutions to global problems in a committee, such as the Security Council or the Human Rights Committee. The delegates research an issue, write resolutions, debate, and contribute to innovative proposals to solve world problems.

High School Students Wanting to Make a Difference

With a fresh new Organising Committee, we are ready to organise CalsMUN 2023! Having attended multiple Model United Nations at other schools in the Netherlands and abroad, we have witnessed firsthand what it entails to be a delegate. After the success of our very first MUN conference of January 2016, we decided to keep it running and expand our conference to be even bigger and better. We are an ambitious and experienced team that wants to put CalsMUN out there.

What Makes Us Different?

Our conference is relatively new, but our organisation is experienced and extremely motivated. We constantly keep an open mind to new ideas trying to make our conference interesting and different, to ultimately try to stand out from other already well-established conferences. We do our best to keep evolving and add variety, one of the reasons why we included the Historical Committee amongst our other committees. Because of great acceptance at CalsMUN 2018, we decided to also implement the committee at CalsMUN 2019. Yet again the committee was of great success. Such a success, that for CalsMUN 2020 the entire theme revolved around history, and the Historical Security Council was added!

About us

We are a group of highly motivated high school students interested in getting young people involved in global affairs because we believe that the younger generation should be actively involved in discussing world problems, and the MUN gives them that opportunity.

In addition to learning, we offer students the chance to meet peers not only from other parts of the Netherlands, but also from different parts of the world. An opportunity to experience different opinions and cultures whilst making new friends.

Our school, Cals College, is situated in the heart of the Netherlands, in Nieuwegein, Utrecht.

With over 2000 students attending our school every day, Cals College has all the facilities needed to host a successful conference. Being in the outskirts of Utrecht city, there is frequent and convenient public transportation, from early in the morning till late at night, to and from Utrecht Central Station and our school.

Nieuwegein lies on the outskirts of Utrecht. With good transport links you will be in the centre of the historic city in half an hour. The city is a must-see for our international delegates.
